今私は高校生の頃に写真を撮っていた伊勢の地に戻り、あの頃の記憶の断片を携えながら、現在の伊勢を見つめ、再び写真に収め始めました。
I returned to Ise, where I first practiced photography as a high school student, and began photographing the city again, seeing its present through the fragments of memory I carry from those years.
還暦を過ぎた今、私はこの一連の作品を、連想記憶のかけらの集積として捉えています。そこに写し留められた現在の痕跡が、いつの日かこの時代へと立ち戻り、かつて自分が見たもの、感じたことを呼び起こすための手掛かりになると考えています。
Now that I am past sixty, I see this body of work as a collection of fragments of associative memory. The photographs preserve moments from the present, which may one day allow me to return to these moments and recall what I once saw and felt.
伊勢には、他のどの土地とも異なる独自の信仰の伝統によって形づくられた、特徴的な生活が今も息づいています。現在、私はこの生き続ける伝統を作品の主要な主題の一つとして、信仰や伝統が今も作用している、その何気ない日常を記録しています。
Ise is home to a distinctive way of life shaped by a tradition of faith unlike that found anywhere else. Today, much of my photographic work is devoted to this living tradition, focusing on the quiet, everyday moments in which it continues to shape life in the city.
